Hello from Dan at Project Everyone Slim - Austin,
Thank you for joining our group. Responding to these 3 questions would help me out tremendously if you would please do so. It will only take 30 seconds. In order to help me reach out to more people and also to best meet your needs, please answer the following three questions: 1) Do you like the new name for the group - Project Everyone Slim - Austin? Yes or No 2) What meaning does the name have for you? 3) What's the single, most important question you have regarding losing weight? Thank you. I appreciate you. Hope to see you soon. Here are my perceptions as answers to your questions.
1) I prefer a more neutral name like "Weight Loss" as opposed to "Slim". 2) Slim has a meaning of "impossibly thin", the kind of image that media and advertising hold up as the ideal. Most of us are not supermodels or ballet dancers who eat virtually nothing. Also, some people may have more modest weight loss goals and slim may not be a goal for them. I know some people who are not slim, but are not obese either. They are happy at their weight and are in good health. The goal weight that my doctor has for me is based on the standard chart for a 6'4" man although I am 6'7". The chart simply ends at 6'4" so 240 is too thin for me. No one who sees me thinks I am obese although the doctors tell me so. I don't necessary want to be slim. I just want to lose enough weight to be able to stop taking meds for cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc. 3) No diets. I want an eating plan I can stick with that doesn't deprive me of anything I crave. Serving sizes can be less, but if I want that Snickers bar I don't want the Diet Police saying my life will be ruined by eating it. Thanks for asking and thanks for making this meetup happen. David |

1. No, I'm not a fan of the new name.
2. Slim seems to imply healthy, which is not always the case. Yes, being slim has it's advantages, but slim people can feed their bodies junk. 3. It's not about losing weight for me. So many people focus on weight loss, they get discouraged when it doesn't happen. For me, it's a healthy lifestyle change, and with that change comes weight loss. My one question, really isn't a question. I have the habit of going back to old bad habits. I'm not sure how to change that. Thanks for the group, I've been enjoying it. Michelle |
